Photographer Highlight- Edwin Blumenfeld This week I would like to bring attention to the photographer Edwin Blumenfeld. Blumenfeld was a fashion photographer. His unique style went beyond the norms for photography. He set his own rules and style creating images that were ahead of his time. Vogue used many of his photographs for its magazine. Many of his images were full of color and personality. His obsession was with women - he photographed many famous women ( Grace Kelly , Audrey Hepburn , Marlene Dietrich , and many more).  To see his a gallery of his work you can click the following link.. Photographer Highlight - Kevin Carter This week I would like to bring attention to free-lance photographer and photojournalist Kevin Carter. He is known for photographs taken with the purpose to expose and educate people of the injustice and brutality in Africa. Carter and his fellow photographers risked their lives so that they could capture these horrible scenes. His most notable photograph being a picture of a young, starving child stalked by a vulture. Carter won the Pulitzer Prize for this photo but weeks after this award he committed suicide (some say because he became so depressed from the violence and inhuman actions he had witnessed while photographing).  Taken in Sudan 1993 ****All above information and photographs were found on the following website, visit this site for more information: http://biogrph.wordpress.com/article/kevin-carter-1x4qvbqoz9orn-89/ The trials and times of Kevin Carter and his fellow photographers while photographing in Sudan h
Photographer Highlight- Man Ray This week I would like to bring attention to the photographer Man Ray. Man Ray was a very talented man who explored several artistic mediums (painting, media, photography, etc.). Although he had his own fair share of strange obsessions (woman and eroticism) he produced many wonderful piece of art and photography. Not only was he a photographer but he was also very influential in the Surrealism and Dadaism of photography. I chose to highlight Man Ray because I am drawn to several of his photographs. One in particular being   Les Larmes from 1932.  He is also known for the "Rayogrammes" which are created not with a camera but by exposing objects on photo-paper and emphasizing shadows and light.   To read more about Man Ray and to view more of his work please visit the following sites:  http://www.arthistoryarchive.com/arthistory/surrealism/Man-Ray.html http://www.moma.org/collection/artist.php?artist_id=3716 Les Larmes 1932 Dance
